Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is the annual celebration where the living honor the deceased with food, flowers, and festivity. Dating back nearly 3,000 years to pre-Columbia Mesoamerica, the tradition derives from rituals practiced by the Aztecs and other indigenous cultures who would pay tribute to their loved ones who had passed away. Día de los Muertos aligns with Catholic observances such as All Saints Day and is celebrated Nov. 1-2.
